Special Issue.  From Muses to Poets: New Approaches to Women and Poetry in Early Modern Iberia and Colonial Latin America

We are seeking submissions on the many relationships between women and poetry in Spain and Latin America between 1500-1700. Topics of the essays may include women as muses and objects of poetic inspiration, the effect of gender in poetry written by women, the relationship between women’s poetry and their religious and ideological place in history, women as consumers of poetry, women as literary patrons, or women as dedicatees of poetic texts. This will be a special issue organized in collaboration with the Society of Renaissance and Baroque Hispanic Poetry (SRBHP) and the Grupo de Estudios de la Mujer de España y las Américas -1800 (GEMELA).

Please, send proposals of 300 words (in Spanish or in English) to the editors, Javier Jiménez Belmonte ( and Nieves Romero-Díaz ( by October 1, 2016 (no extension). Editors will have a decision by October 31. Once authors of selected abstracts are informed, they will have until February 15, 2017 to submit their complete essay. Please note that the acceptance of a paper proposal does not guarantee the publication of the essay. Also be aware that the final volume will be evaluated by an editorial committee.
